Problem

Islamic Farming practices are becoming essential. Extreme poverty and climate change are combining resulting in many rural communities needing to shift from livestock farming to crop. However, this is a new skill to learn and farmers lack the technical knowledge. As a result the farm land is regularly badly utilised and yields reduce, impacting nutrition and livelihoods. The result is serious; land degradation.

Our Response

Islamic Farming is Global One’s flagship programme. We have proudly trained 140 local farmers and 22 orphan girls in sustainable agricultural practices and techniques so far. The project is, in brief, a training course that educates farmers (and in particular women) to become self-sufficient and support their families. In addition to sustainable farming skills, farmers and orphans are educated on cost-effective, nutrient-rich crops. Also included in the training is a warning of environmental degradation caused by farming to ensure sustainability. The training that Global One provides is varied, depending on the needs of the community. We have given training on beekeeping, crop farming, vegetable gardening, livestock farming and even basic business and entrepreneurship skills.These additional business ventures provide ‘under-employed’ villagers who are struggling to support themselves with a second source of income. Global One also supports the farming community with new infrastructure that may be needed to support agricultural work. These include building canals, installing solar-powered water tanks, greenhouses and providing farming initial materials such as beehives.
