Issue: 

In Bangladesh, 32.5 per 100,000 females have either breast or cervical cancer, two of the most prevalent and high-risk cancers in the world. According to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, cancer is the sixth leading cause of death. Furthermore, the International Agency for Research on Cancer has estimated cancer-related death rates in Bangladesh to be 7.5% in 2005 and a predicted 13% in 2030. The poor access to medical facilities, stigmatization of seeking healthcare and the lack of knowledge about such diseases mean that only 11% of women in Bangladesh are diagnosed in the early stages of such cancers. Slums and rural areas face even lower rates of diagnosis as awareness is lower, diagnosis services are unavailable in public hospitals, and private hospitals are too expensive for most if not all of the local population. These rates have made the issue an overall public health concern, as when women finally get an initial evaluation, the disease is at an incurable stage. Too great a number of Bangladeshi women are dying because of late diagnosis of cervical and breast cancer.  

Our Response: 

Global One has designed this project to provide free breast cancer & cervical cancer screening and diagnosis to the impoverished women of marginalized and rural communities in Bangladesh. Global One has been delivering comprehensive health care projects in different districts of Bangladesh covering more than 24,000 patients per year amongst who most are women and adolescent girls including widows and orphans. This project is designed to raise awareness of breast and cervical cancer as well as diagnose as many women as possible in order to prevent deaths. Global One has procured the first digital mobile mammography and cervical cancer screening machine in Bangladesh that will be used in order to screen women in marginalized communities around the country. We have also established a strong referral system with specialized hospitals in order to secure treatment for women who are affected with breast or cervical cancer.  Click here to learn more.

Camp Plan: 

• All Female-medic run camp 
• Awareness campaign for 2 weeks prior to the camp and recruit with the help of the local administration and govt health centre 
• Each camp will run for 3-4 days with 1 day of consultation with a specialist doctor  
• Service will run from 8:30 to 4:30 every day in 15 min. time slots 
• Referral system with specialized local hospitals

Our goal is to promote awareness and enable women to receive access to adequate care. With your donations we can keep the wheels of the Mammography Unit in motion. As a result of your generosity, we will be able to pay for doctors, nurses and the vital X-ray equipment needed. As breast cancer continues to take lives far too early, we will continue to fight this battle with your support, saving a great number of lives that are endangered by late diagnosis.  

Cost: 

£150 in order to provide 10 women with cancer screenings. £750 will set a camp up for 100 women to receive either a free breast cancer screening or cervical cancer screening. £1500 will provide 100 women with both screenings.
