Due to the consequences of climate change on livestock, communities in Garissa, Kenya, have had to shift to crop farming from raising livestock. However, the lack of technical knowledge on farm management has made it difficult for farmers to utilise the land to its full potential. Under those circumstances, the result was a serious land degradation.

Empowering women to support themselves sustainably

Global One’s flagship Islamic Farming project, a 5 month pilot project implementing sustainable farming techniques, has empowered farmers (and in particular women) to become self-sufficient and support their families.

This project used our Islamic Farming Toolkit to train 20 local farmers and 20 orphan girls in sustainable agricultural techniques through its faith-based approach and provision of land, tools and livestock.

Our Impact

Since the training, the average yield of the farmers has increased by 49%. Up to the present time, the project has improved the livelihoods of the local community and decreased food wastage. Also, it has helped to preserve our planet through implementing eco-friendly farming methods, such as the use of natural fertilisers.

This project has created employment opportunities in the farming sector and for the impoverished workers, as well as providing sustainable livelihoods for the beneficiaries and their families.
