Zakat Calculator

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam. It’s a charitable duty that purifies wealth and is compulsory upon adult Muslims. By donating a percentage of your wealth in order to help those less fortunate, you please Allah (SWT) while supporting your brothers and sisters across the world.

Your Zakat donation helps women, children and vulnerable communities in need. Your donations provide food, water, healthcare and essential medical care.

Giving Zakat is obligatory for all eligible Muslims and is based on the current nisab values. These can vary year to year, which makes knowing how much to pay all that more important.

Our easy to use calculator will tell you exactly how much you are required to give.

And establish prayer and give Zakat, and whatever good you put forward for yourselves – you will find it with Allah.

Zakat Guide

What is Zakat

Zakat is the third pillar of Islam, meaning ‘that which purifies’ and it’s an obligatory payment that Muslims have to make each year to the poor and needy.

How Much Zakat Do I have to pay?

You give 2.5% of your total savings and wealth above a minimum amount known as nisab.

Zakat on wealth is based on the value of all of one’s possessions, this includes:

  • Gold & silver in jewellery or other forms
  • Cash in the bank or at home
  • Property owned for investment purposes
  • Stocks & shares owned directly or through investment funds
  • Money lent to others with the intention to receive it back
  • Trust funds

What is Nisab

Nisab is a threshold and Muslims who own wealth equal to or above that amount are required to pay 2.5% on their total wealth.

The Nisab is defined as 87.5g Gold or 625g Silver

When do you have to pay your Zakat

Zakat can be paid at any point in the year and payment is due after on full Hawl (lunar year) from when you went over the nisab threshold.

You may choose to pay your Zakat in Ramadan to reap extra rewards during the holy month.

Who receives your Zakat

The Qur’an mentions eight groups of people who should be given Zakat, these include:

  • The poor
  • The needy
  • To those who work on [administering] it
  • Bringing hearts together
  • To [free] those enslaved
  • Those in debt
  • The cause of God
  • The stranded traveller

Benefits of Zakat

Apart from completing your obligated duty and saving yourself from sin, Zakat has multiple benefits.

Benefits of Zakat include:

  • Purifying your wealth
  • Helping widows, orphans, the disabled, the needy and the destitute
  • Helping the circulation of wealth in the society
  • Helping break attachment to money and greed
