Limited mobility leads to catastrophic consequences such as being unable to escape from life-threatening situations or physically unable to access basic services such as food, medical care and shelter.

Their suffering doesn’t end there. Disabled women and children are often viewed as burdens who can’t contribute to the community and may be at heightened risk for intra-familial verbal and physical abuse, denied access to key services and isolated.

Women and girls with disabilities are more vulnerable to abuse

195 Million

people in Nigeria are living with a disability.

Bangladesh
Bangladesh has a staggering 1.8 million people living with disability in rural areas where they lack the ability to access vital daily care. More susceptible to abuse due to disability discrimination in parts of the country, their mental health suffers.

Yemen
World Health Organization suggest that as many as 4.5 million Yemenis are persons with disabilities, amounting to 15% of the population. Often in dangerous situations, disabled people are less likely to survive and thrive.

Kenya
According to the 2019 census, 2.2% (0.9 million people) of Kenyans live with some form of disability and 1.9% of men have a disability compared with 2.5% of women, causing families financial issues.

Syria and Palestine
Many refugees live with a disability. In 2013 it was estimated that 10 percent of Syrian refugee children living in camps had a disability. In 2014, of the 700,000 refugees in Jordan, 154,000 were believed to have impairments or disabilities.

Global One is working tirelessly to provide disabled people access to wheelchairs so they can have independence and a better chance at a fuller life.
